<itunes:summary>It takes faith in Christ for the gospel to save the sinner. But how does faith come? Does just listening to or reading the Bible produce faith? The failure to answer this question correctly has eternal consequences. Unbelief is a horrible thing.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Peace for the Troubled</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>To know and experience peace is a desire shared by all—especially when faced with troubled times. The world has its hollow promises of peace but the believer need only look to the One who has ascended to the Father. In the hours leading up to His death, resurrection, and ascension, Christ’s offer of peace to His disciples remains a dominant theme for us to examine this evening.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Over the past several years, the elders have been working to update all of our core church documents (constitution, by-laws, doctrinal statement, and covenant). One month ago, the final draft of those documents was voted on and adopted with unanimous approval by the church. This morning, we are going to spend our time focusing on Berachah’s church covenant. Why do we have a covenant? Is it really that important? What does it say? How will it be used? May we be comforted and challenged by these mutual commitments to one another in the church.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:author>Dr. Howard E. Dial</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>The Weaning from Pride</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>We are all afflicted with it. It does not discriminate. It has its male form and its female form. It is intoxicating, distorts one’s perspective, keeps one from pleasing God and if unattended will lead to personal destruction. It takes a supernatural work of God to identify it and kill it. It is a sin that needs the medicine of God’s grace often administered as a result of personal suffering. Pride is the malady that receives attention in Psalm 131. It is unmatched in its potent brevity.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>The story of the Bible is also the story of the nation of Israel. Israel’s history has been one of suffering and survival. What are we to make of this? <itunes:subtitle>The King and Children</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>“Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world . . .” That simple song contains a lot of truth. Jesus does love children. The gospel accounts bear witness to Jesus’ deep and tangible love for kids. In fact, Matthew, Mark, and Luke all thought this brief encounter between Jesus and some little children was significant enough to include in their narratives. Join us tonight as we are challenged by our Lord’s perspective on little ones.</itunes:summary>

<title>&quot;To Marry or Not to Marry&quot; – Matthew 19:10-12</title>
<itunes:author>Justin Culbertson</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>To Marry or Not to Marry</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Last week, we heard Jesus’ high standard for husbands and wives – a lifelong, exclusive, intimate one-flesh relationship. In response to Jesus’ lofty and counter-cultural standard, the disciples reply after considering this, “If such is the case of a man with his wife (if the commitment is that great), it is better not to marry” (Mat. 19:10). Is that true? How do you know if you should marry or not? What if the desire for marriage is there, but the opportunity doesn’t seem to be? How can parents help prepare their children for singleness and/or marriage?</itunes:summary>

The Christian tradition for lights at Christmas is related to the “light” that shines in the darkness, namely, the Lord Jesus Christ. <itunes:summary>Joseph is the forgotten man of Christmas. He gets very little press in the gospels. We have no recorded words that Joseph ever spoke. He is very much a background figure. As the gospel accounts continue, Joseph fades even more into the background. Yet God chose this man to be the earthly father of His Son. What can we learn from noble Joseph’s life? And how does His supporting role help to throw the spotlight on the real star of Christmas?</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Man was created with a desire to be happy—to live in a blessed state. We long for our homes to be blessed, our relationships to be rich, our marriages to be healthy, our children to thrive, our work to be fruitful and the list goes on. The great tragedy is that the vast majority seek this fulfilled life in vain. This psalm is short, but exceedingly full and suggestive—happiness belongs solely to the one where the fear of the Lord resides. In the words of C.H. Spurgeon, “we must reverence the ever blessed God before we can be blessed ourselves.”</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Psalm 23
The LORD, the Psalmist's Shepherd.
A Psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters.3 He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil , for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever .</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Jesus continues to give sharper focus to the training of His disciples. From group instruction to the “the twelve”, to the transfiguration event witnessed by three (Peter, James, and John), and now to a conversation with only one—Peter. In this brief verbal exchange and strange little miracle account, we learn a massive lesson about Jesus’ identity.</itunes:summary>

<title>&quot;The Groaning Christian&quot; - Romans 8:23-27</title>
<itunes:author>Dr. Howard E. Dial</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>The Groaning Christian</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>We can groan without complaining. Sanctified groaning is a recognition of our limitations because of a sinful world. John Stott has said, “Our groans express both present pain and future longing. Some Christians, however, grin too much (they seem to have no place in their theology for pain) and groan too little.” Thankfully, in our groaning and weakness we have the Holy Spirit who intercedes for us. As Christians we are to be prayer warriors. The Holy Spirit prays for us and Jesus Christ is our intercessor as well. What magnificent assurance that nothing can separate us from the love of God.</itunes:summary>

<title>&quot;Attitude of Gratitude&quot; - Psalm 138</title>
<itunes:author>Wade Grubbs</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Attitude of Gratitude</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>At the center of Paul’s description of the ungodly in the last days is the word “ungrateful” (2 Tim 3:2). How appropriate is it that those who are described as haters of God and lovers of self are conversely found lacking gratitude. If ingratitude is a part of ungodliness it goes without saying that part of being godly is being thankful. One who is God-focused in his or her life is continually offering thanks to God. If you have the slightest bit of difficulty offering such thanks with any measure of consistency Psalm 138 is a timely box worth opening. As David gave thanks to God for how he saw God working in his life, he gives us a wonderful picture of what thanksgiving to God really is.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>The Groaning of the Holy Spirit</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Every sufferer longs for some kind of comfort. Tragically, there are “snake oils” that are offered with promises of help in dealing with pain. One of those snake oils is the teaching that health and healing from all sickness in this life is guaranteed, if we only meet the right conditions. All that is necessary, according to this theology, is faith. In contrast to this error in thinking is the comfort in suffering God has provided through the work of the Holy Spirit. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”</itunes:summary>

<title>&quot;Continuing On in the All-Sufficient Christ&quot; - Colossians 2:1-10</title>
<itunes:author>Wade Grubbs</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Continuing On in the All-Sufficient Christ</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Paul would describe many today as being “deluded” in their understanding of the gospel. Since coming to faith in Christ they have been taken captive by that spiritual mathematics which seeks to make additions to a simple devotion to Christ. This type of misunderstanding poses all sorts of dilemmas for the child of God. Paul wrote to the church in Colossae to avoid such dilemmas. It serves us well tonight to look to the Scriptures. Here we see that in Jesus we have all we need to live a dynamic spiritual life. As we come to Christ, so may we continue in Christ.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Aches, pains, headaches, tumors, strokes, herniated disks, arthritis, heart disease, measles, influenza, seizures, cancer. The list of potential physical ills seems almost endless. If that were not enough, there is the enemy within, our fallen sinful nature. It is active every waking moment and even when we are not awake. Fear, worry, sexual lust, jealousy, anger, envy, lying, greed. This list also seems endless. What is the meaning of all this? The apostle Paul says that we as Christians groan within ourselves. Let’s open this up and see the hope that is ours in Christ.</itunes:summary>

<title>&quot;Reflections on the God-Entranced Life and Ministry of Jonathan Edwards&quot; - Hebrews 13:7-8</title>
<itunes:author>Patrick Work</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Reflections on the God-Entranced Life and Ministry of Jonathan Edwards</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>The author of Hebrews writes in chapter 13, “Remember your leaders, those who spoke the Word of God to you, considering the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” One such leader in my life has been Jonathan Edwards. Misunderstood and mischaracterized by our culture as a cold, morose, and austere curmudgeon from an age gone by, Jonathan Edwards is far too often dismissed by believers in our day. My hope, as we look at both the life and ministry of Jonathan Edwards, is that we will see the conviction with which he embraced and spoke the Word of God, the outcome of his God-entranced worldview, and, as a result of his example, be spurred on to know and follow Christ more fervently.</itunes:summary>
