WHAT IS GRACE PROMISE?
It begins with the word “grace” because
it is by God’s grace that the Christian is able to give to
the Lord.
Grace is God doing for the believer
what he does not deserve and cannot do by himself.
Grace giving is the means God uses
to finance the task of world evangelization through the local church.
It is a promise in that the believer
plans ahead of time what he will give to finance the work of the
Great Commission.
WHAT ARE THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF GRACE
GIVING?
All true giving begins with the grace
of God (2 Cor. 8:1,2). Grace giving is not based on human resources.
Our needs are the opportunity for God to work and provide for us.
Limited resources should not be allowed to determine the limit
of one’s giving.
Grace giving is characterized by generosity
(2 Cor. 8:2,3). The poverty of the Macedonian believers did not
stifle their generosity. Generosity arises from a heart that is
grateful to God for His grace to us. When I realize how much God
has done for me, I can do no less than be generous to others.
Grace giving begins with first of all
giving of oneself (2 Cor. 8:5). I give myself by experiencing the
grace of God through a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. I then
must begin to live in the light of the realization of the availability
of grace on a daily basis. God provides the power for the Christian
to do what he is supposed to do.
Grace giving operates according to
a plan (2 Cor. 9:6-11). There must be a willingness to do so and
the plan must be carried out consistently. It takes the spiritual
grace of self-discipline.
Grace giving results in blessing for
the giver (2 Cor.9:6-11). There are spiritual dividends to investing
in God’s work. One of those dividends is the freedom from
the love of money (“Givers for God disarm the power of money”).
It should also be remembered that God will provide for the believer
who sows by generous giving (Phil. 4:19).
Grace giving results in the glorification
of God (2 Cor. 9:12-15). Gratefulness to God for what He has done
becomes the occasion for praising Him. The grace of giving is made
possible by God and comes full circle to give glory to His name
for what He has done.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE GRACE PROMISE?
Any believer who is willing to look
to God to provide for him so he can give to the Lord’s work.
Any believer who wants to see the triumph
of God’s grace over and through human weakness and limitations.
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN THE GRACE PROMISE?
Plan your financial commitment to world
missions (Grace Promise Plan) for the coming year.
Indicate the amount you plan to give
(by God’s grace) on the Grace Promise card and place in the
offering box.
The total amount from all the submitted
Grace Promise cards serves as the world missions budget for the
coming year.
Pray and ask God to supply the money
you wish to give to world missions each day of the year.
